Accessibility Statement for AI Clinical Coach
risr/ is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Our efforts are ongoing as we implement the relevant improvements to meet WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines over time. If you need assistance in using AI Clinical Coach, or have specific questions or concerns about the accessibility of the site, please contact us at info@risr.global.
How we support accessibility
risr/ takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of AI Clinical Coach:
- Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
- Appoint an accessibility officer and/or ombudsperson.
- Aim to provide continual accessibility training for our staff.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use AI Clinical Coach. You should be able to:
- Use the website without encountering scrolling, or moving text.
- Use your screen reader to listen to most of the website. This includes the most recent versions of Job Access with Speech (JAWS), NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) and VoiceOver on mac.
- Use and navigate the website with your keyboard alone.
- Navigate the website using speech recognition software.
- Use the website without encountering any time limits except where required to ensure your security and privacy. Time limits are also implemented for the consultation and feedback sections and are required for the application. We consider timing in these cases essential.
AI Clinical Coach has a requirement for voice-based input in all interactions with the role-playing patient and the coach. In this application, we consider it an Essential Exception under WCAG guidelines. The core pedagogical objective is to simulate and evaluate the nuances of clinician-patient verbal communication, including tone, pacing, and spontaneous verbal response. Because the learning outcome specifically measures “vocal manne”' and “oral diagnostic delivery,” providing a text-based input alternative would fundamentally alter the nature of the assessment, rendering the evaluation of spoken interpersonal skills impossible.
To maintain the highest level of accessibility possible, we provide visual feedback for all audio outputs to support users with hearing or cognitive processing needs. In the future, we aim to provide real-time captioning.
How we test for accessibility
Our main approach to accessibility testing of AI Clinical Coach is as follows:
- We use an automated testing tool on a representative sample of pages, selected to cover all the different page or content types.
- We manually test new features as they are developed using a combination of screen reader, browser, and keyboard-only testing.
- We include automated tests in our CI pipelines.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. AI Clinical Coach is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
Additional accessibility considerations
Although our goal is WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance, within AI Clinical Coach, we have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria.
For example, we used regions and landmarks to identify page regions. We don't use images of text. No content flashes more than three times per second.
Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology
As part of our commitment to accessibility, we aim to ensure that AI Clinical Coach is compatible with:
- Recent versions of popular screen readers
- Operating system screen magnifiers
- Speech recognition software
- Operating system speech packages
Technical specifications
Accessibility of AI Clinical Coach relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:
- HTML
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS
- JavaScript
- SVG
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of AI Clinical Coach, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations along with a tentative timeframe resolution. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations
- No live captioning: Interactions with the AI patient and the AI coach are voice-only.
- Roles. Not all content may be robust enough that it can be interpreted by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies. For example, some of the dialogs are not properly announced by screen readers, or the input controls activating them are not announced as controlling the dialogs.
- Bypass navigation. It’s currently not possible to bypass the top level navigation with a keyboard.
- Form instructions. Certain forms input controls display error messages and instructions, but these are not programmatically associated with their inputs. Therefore, these are not properly announced to screen readers.
Known limitations remediation timeline
- Planned for the next release:
- 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: The site is not fully compatible with screen readers (JAWS) and speech-to-text technology (Dragon/VoiceOver).
- 3.3.1 Error Identification: Some error messages are not associated with their inputs.
- 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks: There is no way to bypass the top level navigation with a keyboard.
- Within the next 6 months:
- 1.2.4 Captions (Live): The audio interactions with the AI patient and AI coach are not captioned.
